The Ship
Friday: Seattle - First Day of the Cruise
On Friday morning we headed to the ship terminal building to board the Rhapsody…the nice thing is that Royal Caribbean likes to board it’s guests for this cruise much earlier in the day—we were on the ship around 1pm! For us, the check-in process was simple and fairly painless and the next thing we knew we were walking into the grand atrium of the Rhapsody Of The Seas…a place they call The Centrum, which is like 8 stories high with viewing places to see the goings-on from every level. It’s kinda like a main area of a big mall and really the main hub of the ship. I can only imagine what’s going to go on there when WE get the ship next year! Moments after being greeted by the warm Rhapsody staff, we had drinks in our hands, and off to our staterooms to get settled.
Now, please know that if you choose to go directly from the airport to the ship on the sailing day, there is a fantastic transfer service that you can use. It’s a bus from SEA-TAC airport straight to the ship…you give them your bags at the airport and the next time you see them, they’re in your stateroom ready to be unpacked. Pretty cool.
After a nice lunch at the Windjammer café (the round-the-clock casual bistro), a glorious sail-away from Seattle (complete with the beautiful Seattle skyline as a backdrop) and a look around the ship to get our lay of the land, we were back in our cabins to get ready for cocktails and dinner. There are SO many amazing venues on this ship, by the way…from the 1000-seat main showroom, which they call the “Broadway Melodies Theater” (beats any showroom I’ve seen on a ship), to the slightly smaller lounge called “Shall We Dance”. There’s the very cool music bar called the “Schooner Lounge” and of course an indoor and outdoor pool, the awesome disco lounge at the very top of the ship “The Viking Crown”, a lively casino, multiple lounges and bars and meeting rooms etc. I gotta say, it’s a pretty perfect environment for our guests to truly get the most out of our cruise. As you can tell from the name of it, this ship already has a musical theme to it—everywhere you look you see it--in the art, in the furnishings, in the names of venues and even staterooms. I immediately felt right at home!
After a cocktail party in my cabin for my team and I, we walked to the main dining salon—a beautifully appointed room called “Edelweiss”…our wait staff was just the best, from the moment we met them…funny, on their game and totally enjoyable—excellent service and attention to detail. The food over the course of the cruise was ever-changing, very thematic to where we were sailing (I had an Alaskan King Cod one night that blew my mind) and most importantly, delicious! On this first night of the cruise, we were the last to leave dinner…and it remained that way for the entire seven nights. It’s just a nice, relaxing, elegant and warm ambiance—makes you not want to leave!'
