Our hearts and prayers are with our cherished friend and colleague Al Jarreau, who we all love, adore and care for deeply.

All of us Al fans are so saddened by the news that he will not be on tour this year due to his current health challenges, and consequently he will not be joining us as planned for our “Venice & Beyond” cruise this May. He is one of the all-time greats and an amazing human being…we sincerely hope and pray he will return to the concert stage soon. But he will never leave our hearts.

GERALD ALBRIGHT

One of the biggest stars of R&B, contemporary and straight-ahead jazz, Gerald Albright has earned his reputation as a “musician’s musician. ” Born in Los Angeles, he began piano lessons at an early age. Albright’s love of music picked up considerably when he was given a saxophone that had belonged to his piano teacher. By the time he enrolled at the University of Redlands, he was already a polished saxophonist. Albright decided to switch to bass guitar after he saw Louis Johnson in concert. A few months after graduating from college, he joined jazz pianist/R&B singer Patrice Rushen, who was in the process of forming her own band.... READ MORE

RICK BRAUN

If you’ve ever seen Rick Braun perform, you know what a high–energy entertainer he is. But ask him to talk about his career and the gregarious, charismatic musician–songwriter–producer becomes visibly uncomfortable and awkwardly quiet. “The collective moments are one big unfolding story that’s still not done. I just sit back and be grateful to still be making music with friends,” says the humble trumpeter–flugelhorn player–vocalist Braun, a consistent chart–topper who has amassed a catalogue of No. 1 Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart and radio hits throughout his solo career that began in earnest in 1992.... JONATHAN BUTLER

South African singer-songwriter-guitarist Jonathan Butler is tending to his herb garden at his suburban Los Angeles valley home. Growing tomatoes, bell peppers, rosemary, sage and thyme, his new pastime that he says gives him “a new sense of heaven” is part of a mindset he’s cultivated that he’s dubbed “the season of me. ” The musical counterpart to this harvest season in the two-time Grammy nominee’s life is “Living My Dream,” a bountiful feast of organically-nurtured contemporary jazz instrumentals and soul-mined R&B vocal cuts – all original songs that he produced and tracked live in the House of Blues studio in Los Angeles.... SHEILA E.

A world-class drummer, percussionist, singer, songwriter, entertainer, author, humanitarian, mentor, actress—Sheila E. is a dynamic public figure who has been driven by a steadfast inner rhythm since the day she was born. “Before I had language, I had rhythm,” she writes in her recently-published memoir, The Beat Of My Own Drum. “I learned it before I learned my mother tongue. ” When Sheila gave her first public performance at the age of 5, there was no doubt in her mind that she was going to be a percussionist. Music, rhythm, and a passion for connecting with others were in her blood, after all. “I wasn’t just born into an environment with music; I was of music,” she writes.... READ MORE

RICHARD ELLIOT

When tenor saxophonist Richard Elliot began preparing Summer Madness, his follow-up to 2014’s critically acclaimed Lip Service, he knew exactly what he wanted to do. First and foremost, it had to be funky. “When I was growing up in the ’70s and first learning to play the saxophone,” he says, “I was mostly attracted to instrumentally based R&B and to jazz that had R&B roots. This record definitely goes down that path, leaning more on the funk side. ” He also knew precisely who he wanted to accompany him on the new music. “I wanted to involve my band,” Elliot says....
